Out of State License

Santa Monica DUI Lawyer

If you are arrested for driving under the influence while on an out of state license, the arresting officer will issue an official notice that your privilege to drive will be suspended in 30 days.  This matter will have to be addressed through the DMV, while the DUI charge itself will have to be addressed through the criminal courts.  A Santa Monica DUI attorney can assist you with this entire process and may be able to help you retain your driving privilege.

A request for a DMV hearing must be made within 10 days of the date of arrest in order to challenge the license suspension.  The status of your driver's license in your home state may be affected, unless you live in Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee or Wisconsin.  Every other state is part of the Interstate Drivers License Compact and may take action against your license, depending on the outcome of your DMV and criminal proceedings.

Culver City DUI Attorney Serving Santa Monica, Brentwood, Marina Del Rey & All of West LA

At Floyd, Skeren & Kelly, LLP, we can address many factors of your case to attempt the best possible outcome.  We will review the circumstances of your arrest and any tests administered.  At times, what is uncovered regarding these alone is enough to materially affect your case.  As needed, we will do a broader investigation, negotiate with the prosecution and defend you in court.

In whichever state your license is held, a California DUI charge is still subject to certain penalties in the event of conviction.  We will do all we can to attempt a reduction or dismissal of the charges or penalties.  Where applicable, it may also be possible to have your license suspension converted to a restricted license, allowing you travel to and from certain places.  We are pleased to assist you in pursuing your legal options.
